naval aviation electical tech?

Question

hello i just enlisted inthe navy and was wondering if anyone has been or is currently an av. im curious about the a school. im wondering if it is in pensicola still and how hard it is.as well as r+r activities while not in school. is it a decent base?im leaving for boot camp soon and after that i have 6 months of a school and would just like to know what to expect.

Aviation ratings are trained at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT), which is located aboard Naval Air Station, Pensacola. See CNATT's home page for specific command information: https://www.npdc.navy.mil/cnatt/.



When I was stationed in Pensacola (2001-2004), I remember that the CNATT facilities, especially the barracks, were very nice.



There is plenty to do in Pensacola and the surrounding areas, particularly if you like the beach or fishing, etc. Have fun while you're there.

Your recruiter should be able to tell you where the school is. At one time (back when we had bi-planes, hehe) AE & AT schools were at Millington, TN. I knew a girl at ET school in Great Lakes who was going to be an AT and went from GL to Millington, but that was back in '66. Only advice I can give you is HIT THE BOOKS HARD for the 6 months you're in school. If you graduate toward the top of your class, you'll have a better chance getting pretty close to what orders you would like. Take care of your R&R/liberty times and don't let them get in way of your studies. You are entering the REAL world now, not high school. Lose the HS attitude and be a man in a man's world. When you get to your first command that is where you will be doing the REAL learning. You'll be getting the basics at AE school (is it aviation electronics or electrical?) but you really learn more by doing hands on work. Listen to the person they put you under as a mentor. I do not know about the Pensacola facilities, but you have chosen a career field that will stand you in good stead no matter whether or not you stay in the Navy. You can work for DoD as a civilian, a military contractor the list is endless. Why dont you contact the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce about vacations there. I bet you will get more than you wanted.
