The Army, Navy, and Air Force get no recognition for there efforts in the War in Iraq. My uncle is a Marine SSgt. and he said that in Iraq the Army had to come save their butts numerous times in Iraq and Afghanistan. Also my dad is a Navy chief and so is my friends dad and they have both been to Iraq and no civilians have praised them like they would praise Marines. They would shower with news time and things of that sort. The Marines who haven't even been to war get more respect than these people.

My question is why.

Give true reasoning in your answer.

The other poster is clearly delusional. Yes they do get most of the praise while the other branches get a kick in the dick especially the army. They have invested a good bit of funding into their Public relations campaign. They have established a reputation through great speeches and recruiting tactics. They are constantly getting killed and go through a lot of hell that no human being should have to see. They deserve every bit of respect they get. I think it's ashame the army does most of the same and it goes virtually unnoticed. Without the AF and navy we wouldn't have sh*t and they deserve respect too. I got 0 respect as a sailor. Nevermind I was sweating gallons in a tin can in the persian gulf away from my family for 7 months and did this several times. i've been shot at and had one of my friends die. The media doens't like to cover this and they are called drunks and gays rather than being shown any respect. The AF has it's imporant missions and VERY dangerous jobs that people don't bother to notice. Marines are in almost all of the video games, news stories etc. The uniform is nice as well. They just have an outstanding public relations campaign. The problem is that it gets to a point people act like they do everything which isn't even close to the truth. The media buys into anything they are told and we know how game the marines are for speaking highly of themselves.

I love and respect my fellow brothers and sisters in arms. I believe that the Marine Corps are focused on being warriors and rightly so. You need only look at the ads they put out for the public as an example. Each one has the statement "The few, the proud, the Marines". They show someone overcoming an obstacle (climbing a mountain and fighting some fire breathing beast for example) or standing in their sharp dress uniforms firing weapons all across America. They take pride in the fact that they are focused on killing the bad guys.

Now look at the other services. Army Strong, Air Force: Do something amazing, Navy: Accelerate you life. The other branches try to show other jobs with in their respective service. Yes they are there to kill bad guys but it isn't each jobs number one focus, there is more to war then killing bad guys.

The image the Marines portray is one of stregnth and honor, it's a good message. Because the other services focus more on the other things they do rather then one mission the Marines do get more recognition.

The public relations folks for the Marines should be held in high regard. Who else could sell such a hard life and mission in such a positive light?

Again, I love my brothers and sisters in arms from each branch, I just wish my branch could garder such support and recognition for all we do.

First, I want to say the Coast Guard is the most under recognized of our forces. They fought in WWII and they were there with us in Vietnam. They may have served in the Gulf. During the Vietnam era, the coasties may have been among the best trained. A large percentage of them went to SERE (survival, evasion, resistance, and escape) school. Many of them attended the Marine Corps Sere school.

No, the Marines do not get more recognition than it deserves. It gets less recognition than it deserves. They have consistently gone into combat with smaller numbers and lesser equipment and excelled at their job.

The marines probably receive a larger share of the recognition that they deserve because of the attitude of marines. If you drive down the road you will see more Marine Corps stickers on cars than any branch, even though they are the smallest branch. Anyone who is a marine knows why. A marine is more likely to tell you he was a marine than someone who served in another branch.

Marines accept anyone who served. We recognize that many never leave the states. We recognize others as being a marine because he became a marine, not because he served in combat.

I would say the Marines get the most recognition and probably deserve the most recognition. The other branches aren't getting the recognition they deserve. I would suggest they teach history in boot camp as the Marines do. They need to honor their heroes and develop the pride the Marines have. Then they can provide the recognition they deserve.

Awww, David, you know the marines love the squids. We wouldn't go anywhere without you! ;)

Its the whole "First to Fight" thing. For the most part they go in first so they are the ones who get the most coverage. News stations don't really focus on what happened two weeks after the initial event. All branches deserve respect the Marines just know how to spin the respect they get.

They always say Marines are First in Last to Leave. But Rangers (who are Spec ops) Lead the way. And when they get there, the Cav Scouts are waiting there handing em beers. Oh, and God knows when the Special Forces Units go in. Just wait until the next Call of Duty comes out, then everyones going to swing back to liking the Army. I have found that the army gets very little credit among the civilian population. ALL branches deserve respect, but I have no problem with a bit of branch rivalry ;)

because no matter how you slice and dice it, the marines are usually very VERY front line.............. my son is USAF and is almost back home [within two weeks] and whilst I am very proud of him and all his efforts I am under no illusions that he would be under the daily front line activity that the marines do day in and day out. And you know what I don't care that they get all the praise and adulation, if that's what it takes to make the families feel a bit better each day then give it too them and then give a bit more...........and that's as a Navy wife navy member my self and a USAF mother.............

Your dad as a Navy Chief should also know full well that respect is what you give to your self you do NOT need some one else telling you how great you are, you should already know it and act in that manner.

Like some of the other users said. The USMC invests pretty much all of their funding into their public relation campaigns so civilians who've never been in the military, much like the one who said " the marines are usually very VERY front line", think that they fight lava monsters with swords.

What the hell is very very front line? Yeah, there's combat jobs in the usmc, but they aren't even the first ones into combat. Its usually the Army's SF(the only SF in America btw...) with an Air Force Combat Controller attached to them, that are the first in.

Even if you aren't talking Special Ops, the Army is still the first ones in. Not to say that the Marines don't( SOMETIMES) help out... the only time i can think of the Marines being the "tip of the spear" is in Iraq, but the Army was there as well and had more men on ground there too.

It's because we have a reputation, that's it. We consider ourselves a warrior culture. Not to say that doesn't exist in the Army, anyone in combat arms, pilots, medics, etc get big props from me.

They all do their jobs very well, it's all about image in the Corps though.

What the hell are you talking about? What recognition?

Did I miss the “Ode the USMC only” parades? Did I miss the “We only respect the USMC” conferences? What are you talking about? I have seen men shake the hand of a female Sailor with the same respect he shook the hand of a male/female Marine. I have seen equal respect dished out to Vets and injured Vets at hospitals and rehabilitation centers. I have seen equal respect for Soldiers who come into a restaurant for lunch and some civilian gets up and buys their lunch. When returning from deployments, I have seen the USO line up to welcome home every branch that enters their airport. What respect do you think other branches are lacking?

Let me remind you, we may have different branches but we still fight amongst each other and help/save each other over there. Let me also remind, you….if you haven’t served I find it quite pretentious of you to say “someone is getting too much respect”.

How bout you join the marines and then answer this question for yourself!

Plus, all branches are fighting for the same reason our country.

Part of maturity is not caring who gets credit for the mission, as long as it gets done.
