If you are beginning at a junior college, nrotc usually is not available, but wherever you begin be sure to complete the fafsa so that the school can make an offer of financial aid. Often very expensive private universities turn out being less than low cost public colleges:

If you meet the academic qualifications you could start at nmmi. The total cost even out of state is less than many public colleges charge for dorms, then after two years transfer to a university with an nrotc battalion or utilize BDCP at a university without an nrotc battalion. And don't be persuaded by the chatter on here about how prior enlisted make the best officers. Only a small percentage of officers ever were enlisted, between about 5-12% depending on service branch. I think you will find that "best" in this sense does not include advancement within the officer ranks.
