What should we put on our overseas USAF dream list?

We definitely want to put down Mildenhall (England). We both have agreed to NOT want to live in Japan OR Korea. Though we are not always granted our 1st choice.. I just wanted to see what everyone has to say about any of the overseas AF base. PLEASE ONLY AIR FORCE ACTIVE DUTY/RETIRED/SPOUSES.

If it helps... he is a crew chief for the C-130's.

Well, we just came back from Mildenhall. Great base, great place to be, BUT the C-130 squadron is a special ops squadron and is very hi-ops. Just be prepared!!

In Germany, you have Ramstein. It is a headquarters base and is extrememly large. Lots of traffic, BX and Commissary always busy, NOT a close knit base. But, lots to see and do in the area. And we loved living in Germany!

Not sure where else in USAFE there are C-130's. Not at Spangdahlem, nor at any other of the UK locations.

Just make sure you don't put down any PAC/AF bases and that you put down what is on the overseas equal listing. If it's not on the Equal listing, odds are there isn't a job available.

Good luck!!

The best way to find a place is to look on the AMS website and based on his AFSC he can see what is available and then you can add those bases to your list. Also if check the overseas mandatory movers listing and see what bases are available. Right now it is hard to move anywhere because the Air Force has put a major hold on most PCS's unless your AFSC requires you to move. I have been stationed here at Cannon AFB for 6 years now and its horrible. I have tried everything to get out of here with no luck. But the best of luck to you guys and remember that it is only a dream sheet.

How about Okinawa? Everyone I have talked to that has been stationed there (Kadena AB) LOVED it. Japan is a mixed bag, and Korea is a remote tour...

You may want to consider Germany (Ramstein AB is the biggie, but I've heard good things about all the bases in Germany), Italy (Aviano AB), or the Azores Islands (Lajes Field -- accompanied short tour, and it's the "hopping point" for all of Europe, so lots of opportunities to travel). I would advise you against Incirlik AB and Izmir AB (Turkey), Anderson AB (Guam) or Thule AB (Greenland) -- my colleagues who have been stationed there reported their experiences ranging from tolerable to awful.

WARNING: For starters, they call it a dream sheet for a reason -- the joke is "keep dreaming." Secondly, the assignment system may have changed, but it used to be that putting an overseas base on your dream sheet made you vulnerable to go to any overseas base, so don't be surprised if you get a base that's not even on your list.
