Lying to your command?

Ok...so my Sister In Law is in the Navy. She told her command that she is going to Ohio to be with her son and they approved her leave. Instead she took off the Florida to hang out with her Boyfriend for the week. What kind of trouble can she get into if her command finds out that she lied to get a week long leave?

I don't think there's any real problem here. She is taking leave, which she is authorized to do. There is typically no need to provide any reason to the command for taking leave -- it is an entitlement that every sailor can use as they see fit. The command approved ordinary leave, so it doesn't appear that she was "mission critical." She isn't taking Emergency leave or seeking anything she isn't entitled to.

I don't see why she felt compelled to provide a false destination (assuming she did), but obviously making false official statements is a criminal offense but I don't see why she would have any need to lie in this situation. As far as the Navy is concerned it is irrelevant if she goes to Ohio to see her son, Florida to see her boyfriend, or the North Pole to see Santa, as long as she is back by the end of her leave everyone's happy.

She can get an Article 15 under UCMJ at a minimum. Technically, she is AWOL... she has leave, but for Ohio, not Florida. They can go worse if they wish to push it.

Her getting in trouble is the least of her problems. If she gets hurt she is in deep sh1t. You have full medical coverage while you are Active Duty in the military... so long as you are where you are supposed to be.

I knew one guy who got into a major accident in Montana (he was stationed in Washington State near Tacoma) to the point of being in a coma. They were making sure that he had a leave form otherwise he wouldn't have been covered for the medical (nor if he didn't have his seatbelt).

Its not that bad as long as they can still reach her on her cell phone. If she turns it off for the whole time thats when she will receive an article 15. Maybe someone sends a red cross message, I mean if you want to really screw her over send a fake red cross message and see what happens.

I think I know why she did, this BF is a soldier and is higher ranking and she probably should not be frtenzing with him or he is married and she does not want to get him or her in trouble.

How is her command going to find out? Why don't you mind your own business?
