I'm new to the navy. I'm an IC and I want to know what ships are usually preferred for deployments. Everyone usually tries to skip out on carriers for some reason. I'm a heavily undermanned rate so choosing a small ship would result in me being one of the only ICs (meaning more work.) Please don't give me the "well if you don't wanna be lazy ect." approach. Long story short the navy is revamping the IC "A" school. We have an incredibly short time for what we actually do. I don't want to be buried with work when I don't know anything, I also don't want to deploy for 7-9 months!

You need to understand the concept that warships are not pleasure cruises or the Love Boat. You have zero say on how long your ship will deploy and you will not dictate your working hours. I was on a carrier and I had friends that were ABEs we were out for five days doing carrier quals the pilots made over 600 traps a work day for them was a minimum of 17 hours. On a LHA it was 13 to 18 hours.

then you chose the wrong rating and Branch. ICs are everywhere and since Carrier Strike Groups and MEUs are comprised of everything from a Big Deck all the way down to FFGs, you WILL be getting underway for 6-8 months at a time.

you better hope to hell you never get Orders to Yokosuka. Stepson was an IC on MUSTIN and his entire 5 years , he was pretty much never in home port.

If you don't want to work hard and don't want to deploy for long you picked the wrong rate

On another note I was not an IC but I preferred the small boys
