What is life like in the Navy SEALs?

I'm going SEALs, i understand their job and what they have to do on a daily basis. I'm planning on letters being the only contact with my family and friends, i don't have anyone close to me in active duty, and i don't know what social life will actually be like while i'm in the service. I used to play world of warcraft a few years ago and i played with a few people located in Iraq.

My question is basically, will i be allowed to use computers to check my email and my facebook? Will i be allowed to use phones? If i have my own laptop will i be able to go as far as using the internet and playing world of warcraft in my free time?

It seems far fetched to me because my view of military life is more along the lines of run, eat, run, eat, train train train, eat, sleep, repeat.

you will be the most advanced warrior that has ever existed on the face of the earth. you dont need anything else but your weapons out there. first of all yea you do get to go on facebook i have a few friends in the marines and they update their things all the time like every week, they add cool pics of being inside houses with things they find. youll get a pc like every week, at least they do in marines. but seriously wouldnt you give anything up to be the best fighter on earth?

I don't know if you are through BUD/S yet, but my feeling is probably not. Concentrate on that and don't sweat the small stuff.

SEALs are not held incommunicado and have access to the same modes of communications that we all do. None of them is going to throw his deployment schedule on Facebook for all the world to see. And if he does, his Teammates will straighten him out. But the Teams work from bases and have 'real lives' just like other folks.

If you want to play online games, I am sure that some of the guys do. You won't be doing it from a windswept mountaintop in Afghanistan, but you can do it later. There is a lot of run, eat, train, repeat, but the SEALs aren't machines. The Teams tend to be pretty tight and sometimes their social life doesn't go too far outside of the Team. But some of them have families and some of their friends are likely to be just neighbors or people they have known for a long time.

Read Marcus Luttrell's "Lone Survivor" if you haven't already. Some of it is slow going, but you can see how they relate in what he writes.

It sounds as if you haven't even enlisted yet.

Joining the SEALs is no easy task. And your chances are small. Focus on becoming a SEAL first, because that is your main task ahead.

You get a decent supply of fish, but only if you perform the tricks your senior officers ask you to. It's a lot like being a Navy dolphin or porpoise.

Are you already in and being deployed or trying out? If you made it, congrats because I'd never do SEALS. I'm planning to go Marines, but never SEALS lol that's hardcore. You'll just have to find out
