Hi, My name is Eden. My boyfriend got deployed early due to Libya and i was not able to obtain his contact info before he left. Will he be able to receive emails that I send to his home email account? How long usually is it before they can contact someone back home? He left the base early Sunday Morn. It is Wednesday now. I just would like to know what to expect. Please let me know something if anyone out there has had this experience.

Sometimes no and sometimes yes. it depends on the command and what the CO authorizes. Some will be allowed Facebook, Yahoo, hotmail and others can never touch it. If you know the command's name you can search it through yahoo/google and see if they have a webpage, get the mailing address and then send him a letter.

due to DoD regs, only Mil Mail is allowed on ships when deployed to an area. If he gets to an Internet Cafe off ship then he will be able to check his Gmail/Hotmail/Lavabit, etc.
