Im 16, and going to be turning 17 this summer. When I do turn 17 i wish to join the army active duty (Mos will be Military Police 31B i beleive), but anyhow only problem is I have flat feet. My feet have fallen arches but aren't rigid, and dont produce any pain. My knees, shins, ankles, and achilles tendon are completely fine. I also play football as a running back and a outside linebacker, so this proves i can run and function properly...

Can I Please have real truthful answers that are based on fact... Dont just tell me no i dont think you can get in the army, or yeh you can get in the army unless you have actual proof (You have flat feet or konw ppl that do that are in army)...

Thank you..

My husband served 20 years with flat feet, most of it in the Marine Corps. They will determine whether you can serve when you take your physical.

It is possible for you to come on active duty, you may need a Medical Pre-Read. No Big Deal, seen plenty of people get in with flat feet. Talk with an Army Recruiter, you may be able to do a split option, go to basic training this summer and your advance training the summer after you graduate.

I'm a Marine, football is fine and dandy but all the physical training you do for football doesn't hold a candle to what you will do in the military. But its not the running and jumping that it will hinder you it's the humping, military jargon for a forced march with weights up to and exceeding fifty pounds for distances up to 25 miles a day. flat feet can't take that. plus the boots are designed for someone with arched feet and will do permanent damage to your feet.

but hey give it a shot anyway the worst they can do at MEPS is say no

You can join the army with flat feet. Most people in the army have flat feet after a few years. They will evaluate your feet and tell you which running shoe to get in basic.

i am retired us army ...75-95...flat feet will cause you problems...you are not playing a football game...in a combat MOS like an MP...something might happen to where you have to carry your world on your back like the infantry..flat feet cannot handle rugged terrain or 25 mile walks...if you fall back...you can get yourself and "someone else" killed....reason enough??

the last time I checked the military now has specially designed boots for those who have flat feet it is no longer something that keeps you out of the military like it was in the past.
