Why is there so little press about this event ?

If Paris Hilton blows a fart it makes the front page of every paper in the nation but our country awards a rare honor for a fallen hero and it gets treated as a foot note on the news desk!?!?!

Is it just me or is this just ridiculous

it's terribly sad that the media goes hogwild to get celebrity news out there and it's so repeated that we all want to just throw something at our tv screens......yet, young men and women that are fighting for freedom in a country of danger and chances are dying and no, we don't get any major coverage...... I don't get it.

I've heard that the news sells...the more news that sells the more they cover it. Heath Ledger's death was so big that people that didn't know him, knew him very well before it was all over.

Is it the people's fault for requesting more celebrity news or is it network at fault for shoving it down our throats??

I just read the one page coverage by Yahoo of the 25 yr. old Navy Seals that died from being blown up by a grenade that he jumped on to save the other soldiers' he was with.......I find that absolutely courageous and well worth my time to spend time getting to know about him.

Please request more humanistic news stories like this with your local news stations and large networks.

I would like to share a story about a person I once met. He was a older gentleman who was a WWII vet. He proudly displayed his jump wings with 2 combat jumps, multiple purple heart awards. A Silver Star award. All these on his hat for all to see, and one award on his shirt, a small ribbon with a blue field and some stars. It was the Medal of Honor award.

I asked him why he did not display this with the rest of his awards. He told me that he did not earn this award out of his merit but out of being a human and saving lives of his friends and members of his unit. He also said that many died for him to get this award. He wanted to keep it close to his heart and he did not display in a big manner because he felt that it was more of a personal thing then all the other awards he had. He was very humble about that particular award.

There is a lot of respect and fanfare that comes with a Medal of Honor, and the few I have met and the many I have read about all treat it the same. Many of those recipients that have lived to wear the award feel the same about it. It is something these people like to keep very secret sometimes. It is given for going above and beyond, that entails the person did something more then just their job.

I do feel that more fanfare should be given to these people, but at the same time I feel that just a quite thank you and hand shake is what these people want.

The answer is simple but sad. Celebrity news draws a crowd from the age group and gender who shop for stuff. And the whole purpose of commercial TV news outlets is to draw a crowd and sell them stuff. It doesn't matter if that crowd is well-grounded in reality. It doesn't matter if the news presenters are either. It only matter that you can sell them stuff.

It works so well that the newspapers have had to adopt this approach of attracting a crowd with fluff. The page count for news in my local paper is beginning to lose out to the "Style" and "Living" sections.

That's why I rely on the web editions of papers on six other continents, supplemented by my favorite short wave station via the web streaming function. I'm listening to Radio New Zealand right now.

It is a solemn and personal event. It is not to be shared with public. Those receiving it are most likely receiving it posthumously

The press is controlled by liberals. Liberals are against the military and the war. Take it from there.

If I wasn't in the military I wouldn't know myself when this happened. This is what our media coverage has become. Very sad state of affairs.
