By my understanding none of them are pure intellegence services, for each of those you mentioned and many others known to us also carry out actions - thus they are not merely intellegece services.

The U.S. National Intellegece Agency is the only one that I know of that purely analyzes data; and takes no actions...thus its the only one I know of that fits your answer. I'm quite certain other countries have similar agencies, but don't know what they are called.

Well they are all intellegence agencies.

The KGB kinda went out with the soviet state.

The German intellegence agency is Der Bundesnachrichtdeinst.

Or BND for short. They have had some of the most spectacular arrests in the war on terror. The German court system is way too forgiving (in my opinion) but their intel groups are top notch.

well, us Brits don't do too bad.

within less than a week of 7/7 we new who/how/why etc and had made arrests and taken action.

that said, the Pakistanis always seem to nick someone an hour after an atrocity. that has always seemed shifty to me.

Yeas they are all inteligence agencies...Even KGB it exists in Belarus, for example. And in Russia it was changing to FSS.
