Can You get married after navy boot camp?

Ok so my boyfriend is planing on joining the navy and he'll be starting boot
camp in September...I'm working saving to get my own place but I know I wont make it in time to see him off..I know boot camp is 8 weeks he wants to get married...I'm wondering after boot camp...will we have time to tie the knot before his assignment?

Leave after boot camp isn't guaranteed. If his next school is classing up right away he could be sent directly there with no time off. After that school he'll qualify for leave before he gets to his first duty station.



Some things to keep in mind: If you aren't married then the Navy doesn't recognize any relationship you have with him. They only recognize marriage. You want to keep that in mind when planning a wedding time if you want to move to be with him. You have to be married before the orders come out so that you're on his orders or the Navy won't pay for your move and for him to get his BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing) in his paycheck. The usual order for enlisted sailors is boot camp, school(s), duty station. No one gets to take a spouse to boot camp. Only schools longer than 6 months authorize spouses to come. For Navy almost all duty stations authorize spouses. Now if his school is over 6 months and you'd be allowed to go with him then it might be smart to think about getting married before boot camp. That way you'd be on his orders from the beginning. If his school is not longer than 6 months you can wait and arrange to be married after boot or once he's in school. Although either option might leave you having a sort of quickie ceremony as he may or may not have a lot of leave time. But life is a whole lot easier if you're on the orders to his first duty station from the beginning.

He should join http://www.mynavyonline.com and you too, I'm KJC88 there, for more information on what happens at boot camp, what to take, bring, and depending on his rating (job) where he will be heading for A school and sometimes since he is leaving in September he might be Grad-N-Go or have 2 weeks vacation, depending on when his graduation is. You might have time to get married, or until after or during his A school wherever it may be.



That's my plan but I'm the one who's heading to boot camp and my boyfriend is staying here at home. So yeah join the forum! We can help him and you a lot more!!!

he'll have time to dogknot you that's for sure. Actually he should have about a week of leave after boot camp. I did. That should be plenty of time to get married, honeymoon and all. Or get drunk and carouse around. whichever he prefers. I didn't get married at that time. In fact i didn't even go see my fiancee. I was never my idea in the first place.

you generally get some leave right after boot camp, and you should be able to get married then, but not always, he should know before he graduates if he'll get leave or not.

Usually, a sailor or soldier is shipped to his school directly after bootcamp, the length of which depends on his MOS/Rating. After school, there might be time for the happy occasion. Congradulations! and best of luck to you! Thank him for his service, and thank you for YOURS! The only thing tougher than being a servicemember is being a servicemember's spouse!
