I'm the frg events coordinator for my husbands unit and I need some ideas that you might have done with your frg or maybe you have a good idea of something we can do for our troops "over there" . Thanks in advance!

We all donated items and filled stockings. We then sent the stockings over so that every single soldier would at least receive something special for the holiday. We also sent b-day cards to every soldier. They were just signed as unit FRG and to let them know they're all thought about.

As an FRG, we had a "field trip" for the kids to the fire station on post. We had a "ladies night out". Another unit babysat for us, then we returned it for them. There was a trip to the zoo via bus the FRG paid for. We did a monthly news letter that had all kinds of stuff in it....not just a typical boring letter.

There's so much more, but I can't remember right now. If I think of it, I'll post more.

When I was FRG leader, we collected halloween decorations, thanksgiving decorations and christmas decorations (including fake trees) to send over there. We also made stockings for every soldier with the troop name on them including the married soldiers and filled them with all sort of goodies. Also we made a giant banner and families brought in pictures or mailed them if they were not there and wrote messages on it, then laminated it.

As for events back here we did a medication class so you could get over the counter meds from the pharmacy on post, as welll as Christmas parties where all kids got a presentl. Hope this helps

Are you allowed to fundraise..it has been a couple of months so I don't remember the rules but I thought you weren't allowed to. Maybe it was you just couldn't ask directly for money from businesses and such. Have you considered contacting the local VFW sometimes they will help with maybe a spagetti dinner fundraiser. I like the bake sale idea because others within the FRG can bake and it won't all be on your shoulders.

PLEASE schedule things so that the people who work during the week can enjoy some of them, as well as scheduling stuff that is ADULT ONLY.

having play dates and parties for the kids is fine, but it shouldn't be the entire focus. the adults left behind need some quality alone time as well. do a group dinner at a restaurant once a month.. choose a different restaurant each month, and whoever wants to come out can.

Have a cookie swap. have everyone make a few dozen of their favorite cookies, then everyone meets to pack them up for a care package.
