Question:
Is my recruiter just trying to rush me to fill their quota?

I took my NAPT (Navy Advanced Programs Test) for the nuke program as well as my ASVAB today, and scored high enough to make it into the nuclear program. Because of this my recruiter told me she scheduled me for MEPS tomorrow. I was hoping to put off MEPS until later this summer, however my recruiter told me that they could only hold the Nuke rate open for me for 24 hours. That sounds to me like they're just trying to get me in and fill their quotas for this month.

I've already made my decision to do the Navy nuke program, and filled out my paper work as well as submitted my paper work applying for secret clearance. Is my recruiter just making the 24 hour bit up, and if the recruiter is making that up in order to rush me, what should I tell them in order delay my trip to MEPS?

Yeah she is rushing you hard. The nuke program is wide the **** open. Don't let them fool you one bit Nukes are in high demand because hardly anyone meets the test requirements therefore its a hard rating to fill. Take all the time you want hell who knows you might change your mind in just a few weeks and by then you could be in the DEP for Nuke. You can get out of the DEP at any time without any negative effects whatsoever. I don't care what bullshit they throw at you, dropping out of the DEP is as simple as saying I do not want to be in the Navy to your recruiter. Remember this is supposed to be an all volunteer military but most of these ****-head recruiters forget this, in the pursuit of warm bodies to fill job slots.

Just remember its your decision, not some recruiter's, take your time and make the best choice for you. I have been to MEPS for the Navy twice already and turned them down flat because they did not have open the rating I wanted. They got pissy of course but ****'em why should they care, they still get paid weather i sign a contract or not. From what you say of your recruiter, I think the best possible route to deal with her is to treat her as the enemy, never as your friend, because once your *** is on the bus going to the airport for boot, they couldn't give a **** less about you.

Good Luck man, I hope things turn out well for you, unlike they did for me, hell i got a 87 on the ASVAB and I have a 4-year degree in construction management, and they still gave me a load of horse **** to deal with

If you made your decision to join then why do you want to wait until later this summer? You aren't going to ship out the day you enlist, it will still be a few months before you leave. Your recruiter isn't trying to rush you because she's just trying to make a "quota." She's trying to rush you because your slot may go away. There are people who are QNE (Qualified, Not Enlisted) with the Navy because they don't have anywhere to put them. No need to wait until the end of the summer if you are 100% sure you want to be a Nuke. I think that it's a great program and that says alot coming from someone who is pro-Army.

No, there not just trying to fill quota, the FY ends in October, that's when the military's quota needs to be filled. It sounds like shes trying to help you out. And your not obligated to sign up at MEPS, you can just take your physical, fingerprints and that stuff. Tell your recruiter if you don't wan to sign up. But honestly I really think shes trying to help you out. I don't know anything about the Navy nuke program, so I can't help you there. Shes not making it up.

The simple answer is yes, I'm currently army but went for navy first.

most test scores last a while.

I decided not to go for the navy just before meps day and my recruiter

did everything to pressure me into service, even the " your asvab will

only be valid for the next few days"

the truth is they have quotas every branch does, after turning them

down i got calls from my recuiter every few weeks for over three years

the key thing to remember is if you are feeling pressured dont do it...take

your time and read everything, every inch of the contract and dont be

afraid to negotiate especially with the navy if you take your time you can

walk away from the table with cash bonuses, increased rank, and maybe

more.

They don't have quotas. They don't get paid any more to sign you up.
