Question:
Why are the US troops in Iraq killing (or dying) in the name of OIL and thinking it is to defend the US?

The U.S. troops have no reason to be in Iraq other than to grab the country’s oil and use its territory as a launching pad for further military attacks.

All of this because the top 8% of the nation who control the nation wanted war to increase profits from oil, either directly or by proxy.

The war is failing, they care less, troops should ask themselves if the war is a failure why die for a failure? Why die so people like the Bush twins can laugh at you all the way to the next million dollar party? And they are laughing...

Go AWOL there is no pride lost in that in this sick and twisted war.

It is the same as the Russians in Afghanistan look at the history of that war! Mothers coming to theater to get their sons! The country didn't want it, the elite did! They knew it why can''t you see it?

Im goint to service soon this year. Im going to war for the personal reason of taking down radical terroists group and help restablize Iraq. A mistake that we made and we have to fix. If you little girly coward punk dont wanna help your nation try to stop a nation from killing itself then go hide inder a rock. Leave the Loyal, obligated, respectful, selfless, honorable, moral, and courageous people to handle this. Radical religious terroists groups oppose womens rights also. I would at least expect all the ladies to be againts radical religious terroists and support the war. Our people are not enlisting to steal oil. Also the war is a failure only if we punk out and give up. If were not effecient then we have to adapt, and recently the united states military has invented some really good weapons that are more effecient and to prevent exrtra uncessary calsuaties as well as buildings being razed. The reaction we shouldnt have is punking out, its approaching this problem with a better new strategy. If your to such a punk to help try to create civil disorder instead helping the nation then go to another country. You wanna support the troops send food or other aid to the military to support troops when they end up in the middle of the battle field. Help the troops be as prepared and confident as they can. Help them be strong. They are also no drafts now so the troops are volunteers that joined the service, Only cowards and un honerable people dont keep there obligtions and words. you claim your patriotic american then act like a one. Dont act like some kind of lazy @s* wimp. Only failures react to a challange they dont understand yet with giving up, the tough and succesful that live on learn, solve and adapt.

Also you people act like the war is wrong because of murder. But i bet if we were wining it with a good kill death ratio the majority of you would be supporting the war. Like the desort storm. You just opposing the war because you cant handle it and wimps and cowards even though the majority dont actually go to service. yet alot of the troops stay in raq, full fill there duties and volunterly join the service. The are no drafts. You people only join the wining side because you suffer less pain. not because you are actually loyal and value the cause and they suffer a million more times than wht you sufffer when they go in service. yet they volunterly stay there and fight on.

Unfortunately, the US military is simply not a democracy. These soldiers are taken from all walks of American life and they are trained to kill and follow orders. That is the military doctrine that exists in all military personnel all over the world. You must take a normally functioning human being and train them to kill. It takes time, and the more training you receive, the more brainwashing you get, the better you are at your job. They simply have no choice in the matter. Any insurrection will result in the application of military law. That can possibly lead to a dishonorable discharge, and federal jail time.

On must first understand that the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq is all about oil. It is the outright manifestation of American greed promulgated by the rich republican party and the Bush Neoconservatives. Bush himself has said the the world does not need crazy dictators running countries that hold more than half of the world energy supplies (fossil fuels). The large oil corporations and Cheney have used the US Military to secure the Iraq oil fields so the oil corporations can basically steal Iraq's oil wealth, enrich themselves beyond their wildest dreams, and screw over the American people by charging outrageous oil prices.

There is so much here to discuss it would take a book to include everything that needs to be said.

Good night and good luck.

First, do you use oil? Is it really such a bad thing?

Second, and more importantly, THEY ARE NOT KILLING AND/OR DYING FOR OIL, regardless of what you prefer to think despite a great deal of evidence to the contrary called facts.

Thirdly, if you had any clue as to what honor and commitment was or loyalty to your country, which gives you the right to say these lies, particularly against the government, you wouldn't even suggest that the military go AWOL because they don't like the war. What are you, 12? I pity your girlfriend if that's your idea of commitment! How about if you grow up a bit, and then come back and ask a serious question?

Dude, there is honestly something wrong in your head. You can disapprove of the war, but do it for sane reasons. Telling a soldier to go AWOL is like telling you to murder your mother.

The main reason we are still in Iraq is oil, but in a strange way you probably have never thought about. Al-Maliki, prime minister or Iraq, currently is closely allied with Al-Sadr, a powerful Iranian who runs death squads in Iraq. Russia and Iran have been making close ties lately, and its no secret that Russia is not a fan of the US. If the US were to leave, Iraq, Iran, and Russia would ally, and thier combined oil production would be greatly above Saudi Arabia and other nations that are friendly to the US. Using that they could corner the oil market and cut most of the oil we need to maintain our society. We have alot of oil in the United States, however its all illegal to drill for, and it would take us alot of time to get to those oil resources, while in the mean time the economy plummets.

Yea, it has nothing to do with the murderous rein of Saddam, or the insurgents in Iraq trying to force their extremist laws on the Iraqi people, or Iran trying to come in and take over the country and the oil, and sure doesn't have anything with trying to give the Iraqi people the opportunity to have OPPORTUNITY to live a meaningful life and have all the options we have and take for granted.

Yep, has nothing to do with that. It is only about oil.

So people should go AWOL because two girls laugh at them? Wow. Going AWOL is turning your back on your country and your own people, it is the act of a true coward.

You, are truly blind. I am "A TROOP" And I would never turn my back on my country! No matter how screwed up the plan is. I believe in civil nations. I believe in freedoms. You need to read up some or something, because this is what I hear from 99.9 percent of my troops. So you believe nations rules under tyranny, and when, oh say 30 sanctions fail, we can just let them off the hook?? Please. Do yourself a favor, and don't boil this down to oil.

Ok I have a beef with this. think with me if you will. What have we done in Iraq?.....1. rid most of the terrorist. 2. We set up democracy instead of tryanny. 3. We are helping establish schools that were distroyed (by the terrorists). 4. feeding the poor. We aren't over there taking all the oil. If we were gas wouldn't be so high. Also the reason we even when over there was because We got bombed. so we went after them. DUH!!! What started WWI ...................NOT GERMANY.... but they got the blame because they were the first to invade. Austrian Archduke Ferdinand went to see his own colony (SERBIA) and the "Black Hand" shot him and his wife. So when This all went down Germany goes hmmmm.... Hey I want to fight too.... So they invaded another country not there own. Now We got bombed. So we go after these guys we get 4 leaders. And we just resently got the last few. If we didn't go fight over there we would be fighting here in our own sweet USA!!! think ahead.... "Make sure your brains in gear before engaging the mouth"

Ignore most of these answers from people who don't have a thirst for the truth. In a way, you can't blame the common US citizen, the government put extensive effort into countering what should be common sense. Its hard to believe that one is on the wrong side, that's hard to accept. Of course we're there for oil. Its common sense. Just picture some other country's govt saying all the things our govt said; then picture 150,000 troops on the ground, but in a different country's uniform; picture 150,000 private contractors, all from a different country. The common sense picture becomes easily seen then.

As to your question as why military personel, esp. the common soldier, does not see that he/she is risking their lives for oil - that's a complex answer in a way.

First off, many do, not all are in the dark.

As for those who are, firstly, its a part of military training, to follow commands without question to accomplish a goal.

Its also hard to look at yourself in the mirror and realize what you've given your life to (in Iraq) is a lie as far as what is said by the govt.

You would think that those in the military would be the most anti-war, b/c they are the ones being sh#* on by the very entity (us govt) they entrusted their lives to.

It can be hard for people to see the truth in this matter b/c its hard to look in the mirror. you're also not going to find "information" in mainstream (big) media, their business is entertainment and making money, not information and analysis.

So people have to have a thirst for knowing. if not, then they simply absorb what is around them on the tv, radio, newspaper, internet.

Also a factor is that it doesn't affect people's day to day lives, unless you have lost a loved one due to this.

Another factor, exhibited in many answers on this website, is that many people see violence as the answer/solution to problems. The first and only answer. Problem? kill 'em. plain and simple. With disregard and total disinterest in how things came to be.

The funny thing is, this is the best thing you can do to increase terrorism.

Think on smaller terms. What's the quickest way to have violence directed at you when you walk in a bar? ... to walk in and punch somebody.

There's a reason why terrorism is directed at us. They didn't just spin the globe and pick the USA at random. Its not because we're western - central america and south america are western too. its not because we're capitalist, lots of countries are capitalist. its not b/c we're mostly white and christian, most of europe and australia is that way. Its distinctly b/c of the methods our government uses in conducting foriegn policy and has for the last few decades.

You obviously have no knowledge about the military, the question is not whether it's about oil or not. Bush is the president, and the president serves as the head of the military so whatever he says goes. You don't have to like it, but when people join they know what the risks are and know that their duty is to follow orders.

You are right. The people of this country are being lied to. Everyday members of the media, pretty much all of those on TV, lie to us. They tell us that Americans are not doing well economically (lie), they tell us that guns are evil (lie) and they tell us that everyone, including military members, is against the war (big fat stinking lie). Then they waste our time with stories about Angelina's latest adoption, or feed us crap stories about Britney, Paris, or that dead fat ex-nobody. Quit wasting our time and realize that we are still not taking Iraq's oil, and never will, so stop hanging your ignorance out for all of us to enjoy and go back to your liberal buddies and cry about how no one wants to listen to you.

I'm not for the war and i dont agree with the reasons why we're there. But i do believe that the troops deserve respect for all they're going through. If they didn't volunteer to put their lives at risk, others like you and me would have to fill in. show some appreciation.

I DO SEE IT. YOU HAVE INSPIRED ME!

Lets get ALL the oil ...at ANY price ...not only in Iraq, but also Iran, Kuwait, Saudia Arabia, Quatar, Yemen...everywhere!

Once we have the oil, what other reason is there to fight? WE WILL BE IN TOTAL COMMAND. WE WILL BE RICH! And the world will be at peace forever!

Man ...you are brilliant! How did you get to be so smart?

Because they're all uneducated morons who would rather fight for something they believe in than desert for something you and I believe in. You'd think they'd consult with us before they go off and join the military, but nooooooo! They'll go off to defend their families from another terrorist attack, but what about OUR needs?

They're so selfish.

First, I must state that I supported the invasion of Iraq for the reason we went in there (at least the ostensible reason), which was to oust Hussein for defiance of cease-fire agreements and numerous U.N. resolutions. (SIDENOTE: I believe the other reason, which will never be admitted by anyone in the administration, was to institute a pro-Western, democratic government meant to influence and/or provoke the Iranian youth to revolt against the anti-Western/theocratic Caliphate that exists in Iran. On a lesser note, I support that too, if only because it beats an all out war against them for supporting terrorism - a war which would be neither profitable, agreeable, or possibly even successful). Second, I must state that I support the current involvement in Iraq, which is to provide stability and peace-enforcement services for the fledgling government that will serve as our much-needed Arab ally in the mid-East and the GWOT (Global War on Terror), which, ultimately, is by far the most important struggle of our generation - no matter how many people try to gloss over or ignore it.

With those statements made, I now criticize the handling of the war and the condition of the U.S. Armed Forces leading up to this new face of warfare that we are forced to endure. I place initial blame on the Carter administration for taking such a weak stance in the beginning of our struggle with the 4 Nov 1979 seizure of the American embassy in Tehran, Iran, and the subsequent hostage crisis that lasted 444 days. I place further blame on the Reagan administration for no response to the 23 Oct 1983 Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut - the first significant extremist act against the United States that caused significant loss of life (not resulting from the direct involvement of a sovereign nation). I place primary blame on the Clinton administration's lack of foresight and attention to detail with regard to the rise of religious militancy across the globe and the willingness of those that support their murderous ideology to inflict pain and suffering upon innocents, particularly Americans, as evidenced by the handful of terrorist attacks upon American interests (i.e. 1993 World Trade Center bombing, 1998 Embassy bombing in Tanzania, 1998 Embassy bombing in Kenya, and the attack on the USS Cole in Oct 2000).

With all of this going on, why on Earth would that administration demand and institute a decade-long policy of systematically demantling U.S. military power?? As a U.S. Army Aviation officer during that period, I witnessed frequent training accidents and inability of active flight personnel to maintain personal flight time minimums dictated by regulations simply because there wasn't enough funding to support a flight-hour program healthy enough to fly everybody. This was how I perceived the build-down. Sure, there was no Soviet threat, but the growing threat, very real today, was right in front of us, as were old enemies such as North Korea, Iran, and Cuba, and potential adversaries such as China, who has the capability of causing severe harm if so inclined.

Where am I going with this? When you ask a 10-division army to perform a mission designed for a 12-division army, you're looking at inherent problems on a grand scale pertaining to personnel retention, operational tempo, training and operational accidents, lifespan of equipment, and numerous smaller problems that would (and has) plague(d) the operation from the outset.

This is where my criticism of the Bush administration falls. With the announcement of the GWOT in Sep 2001, there should have been an emphasis of rebuilding the military machine the U.S. had enjoyed over the course of several decades during the Cold War. Rumsfeld's idea of continuing to thin out the Department of Defense with the notion of 'machine over man' was and is not conducive to the type of warfare we are faced with today. High tech weaponry and laser guided munitions, while very necessary for tactical reasons, are strategically flawed without the boots on the ground to flush out terrorist cells and insurgents. The bottom line is that Colin Powell was right when he suggested more troops for the invasion and subsequent occupation/support operations in Iraq. A significant number of more troops in the beginning would have allowed for a better sealed border with Syria and Iran, which would in turn left little room for foreign instigators to infiltrate and provoke an anti-Western insurgency and ultimately sectarian strife between Sunni and Shi'a who have managed to live in relative peace in Iraq for years.

The United States on a macro- and a micro- level has been trying to accomplish too much with too little. We MUST win in Iraq if we are to prevail in the GWOT. Failing to do so will provide a safe-haven for terrorists around the world, embolden those enemies that their way is the right way, increase the theocratic Iran's influence in the mid-East (and therefore globally), shake our already fragile, yet growing, economy, and further tarnish our image abroad. More troops are needed. But they were needed last year and the year before that. And based on my experience as a military leader, 10 years before that.

I support his plan, but with staunch rebuke. I still argue that more is needed. I argue that the American citizenry should open their eyes to the greater struggle and face personal sacrifice as our families did 65 years ago when involved in last century's greatest struggle. We must come together and not lament the loss of our brave warriors but honor them with supporting a path to victory. I argue that the politicians have some backbone and stop capitulating to the punditry that infects our institution of a democratic republic.

I have countless friends and former colleagues who have served in the GWOT, whether in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, or elsewhere (including my wife). Furthermore, I have lost six friends/colleagues in the war (and three others in non-related incidents), so I am not ignorant to the pain of loss. However I will not dishonor their sacrifices and that of countless innocents lost in the nearly 24 years since American blood was first spilled in our fight with religious extremism, just as we did not (and should not) lament the loss of thousands of lives on the beaches and hedgerows of Normandy in 1944. Then, we had the resolve to fight and struggle through many thousands more deaths of friends, sons, brothers, and fathers in order to achieve the victory that was so important.

The United States is not so strong that we can delude ourselves to think that we are immune to destruction. Japan and Germany had no way to touch us the way we are vulnerable today - remember Hawaii wasn't a state yet when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Yet, we had resolve in '44, when the toll and the sacrifice was much worse. The power of the media is the tool that the enemy uses against us. And this fight is right here at home, right in our living rooms. They are stabbing us with our own knives and we let them do it. So, where is our resolve now, when the stakes are clearly much higher? Where is our will? Where is our combined strength? Where is our sense of reality? Where is our purpose? I pray that we don't have to find out when IEDs are exploding in front of our shopping malls and bus stations. That's not propaganda, folks... that's a grim reality that is just a measure of resolve away... a measure of resolve required by our enemies that are sitting in this country already waiting for their opportunity to show us the true meaning of pain and loss.

The new leadership in the Pentagon, in CENTCOM, and in Iraq have one major task ahead of them - to get the situation under control "over there". But, we as a people, have a greater task "over here" - to get our situation under control before somebody else does it for us.

Read this asshole, it's not all about oil...

DON'T CLOSE THE BLINDS.

The other day, my nine year old son wanted to know why we were at war. My husband looked at our son and then looked at me. My husband and I were in the Army during the Gulf War and we would be honored to serve and defend our Country again today. I knew that my husband would give him a good explanation.

My husband thought for a few minutes and then told my son to go stand in our front living room window. He said "Son, stand there and tell me what you see?"

"I see trees and cars and our neighbor's houses," he replied.

"OK, now I want you to pretend that our house and our yard is the United States of America and you are President Bush."

Our son giggled and said "OK."

"Now son, I want you to look out the window and pretend that every house and yard on this block is a different country," my husband said.

"OK Dad, I'm pretending."

"Now I want you to stand there and look out the window and pretend you see Saddam come out of his house with his wife, he has her by the hair and is hitting her. You see her bleeding and crying. He hits her in the face, he throws her on the ground, then he starts to kick her to death.

Their children run out and are afraid to stop him, they are screaming and crying, they are watching this but do nothing because they are kids and they are afraid of their father. You see all of this, son....what do you do?"

"Dad?"

"What do you do son?"

"I'd call the police, Dad."

"OK. Pretend that the police are the United Nations. They take your call. They listen to what you know and saw but they refuse to help. What do you do then son?"

"Dad.......... but the police are supposed to help!" My son starts to whine.

"They don't want to son, because they say that it is not their place or your place to get involved and that you should stay out of it," my husband says.

"But Dad...he killed her!!" my son exclaims.

"I know he did...but the police tell you to stay out of it. Now I want you to look out that window and pretend you see our neighbor who you're pretending is Saddam turn around and do the same thing to his children."

"Daddy...he kills them?"

"Yes son, he does. What do you do?"

"Well, if the police don't want to help, I will go and ask my next door neighbor to help me stop him," our son says.

"Son, our next door neighbor sees what is happening and refuses to get involved as well. He refuses to open the door and help you stop him," my husband says.

"But Dad, I NEED help!!! I can't stop him by myself!!"

"WHAT DO YOU DO SON?" Our son starts to cry.

"OK, no one wants to help you, the man across the street saw you ask for help and saw that no one would help you stop him. He stands taller and puffs out his chest. Guess what he does next son?"

"What Daddy?"

"He walks across the street to the old lady's house and breaks down her door and drags her out, steals all her stuff and sets her house on fire and then...he kills her. He turns around and sees you standing in the window and laughs at you. WHAT DO YOU DO?"

"Daddy..."

"WHAT DO YOU DO?" Our son is crying and he looks down and he whispers, "I'd close the blinds, Daddy."

My husband looks at our son with tears in his eyes and asks him. "Why?"

"Because Daddy.....the police are supposed to help people who need them...and they won't help.... You always say that neighbors are supposed to HELP neighbors, but they won't help either...they won't help me stop him...I'm afraid....I can't do it by myself Daddy.....I can't look out my window and just watch him do all these terrible things and...and......do nothing...so....I'm just going to close the blinds....so I can't see what he's doing........and I'm going to pretend that it is not happening."

I start to cry. My husband looks at our nine year old son standing in the window, looking pitiful and ashamed at his answers to my husband's questions and he says..."Son."

"Yes, Daddy."

"Open the blinds because that man....he's at your front door...WHAT DO YOU DO?"

My son looks at his father, anger and defiance in his eyes. He balls up his tiny fists and looks his father square in the eyes, without hesitation he says: " I DEFEND MY FAMILY DAD!! I'M NOT GONNA LET HIM HURT MOMMY OR MY SISTER, DAD!!! I'M GONNA FIGHT HIM, DAD, I'M GONNA FIGHT HIM!!!!!"

I see a tear roll down my husband's cheek and he grabs our son to his chest and hugs him tight, and says... " It's too late to fight him, he's too strong and he's already at YOUR front door son.....you should have stopped him BEFORE he killed his wife, and his children and the old lady across the way. You have to do what's right, even if you have to do it alone, before its too late," my husband whispers.

THAT scenario I just gave you is WHY we are at war with Iraq. When good men stand by and let evil happen son, THAT is the greatest atrocity in the world.

"YOU MUST NEVER BE AFRAID TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO DO IT ALONE!" BE PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN! BE PROUD OF OUR TROOPS!! SUPPORT THEM!!!
